Allison is currently the General Manager of the Hobart Police and Community Youth Club Inc and has extensive experience in the government and community sectors. Allison was a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council from 2001 to 2009 during which time she served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Development; a Member of the Budget Committee and Minister for Planning and Workplace Relations. Allison is the youngest person ever elected to the Tasmanian Upper House and the youngest to be appointed as a Minister. Allison was also the first woman to have a child while a sitting member of the Legislative Council. From 1996 to 2001 Allison was Executive Assistant to the State Secretary of the Tasmanian Labor Party and since retiring from Parliament she has served as State Director and Campaign director for many election campaigns. Allison also established the child protection lobby group “People Protecting Children” and also jointly owns and operates a farming business in rural Tasmania.
